Okinowan Isshinryu - 2 defenses against bear hugs
Your attacker grabs you from behind with a bear hug.

Defense #1:
Lower your body by widening your stance, stepping back into a "cat" stance, to slide out the bottom of the hug slightly.
At the same time, raise your forward arm above your head to break out of the hug, and elbow your attacker in the solar plexus with the back hand.

Defense #2:
Bring your hands together, to give yourself leverage. Use the leverage to push your elbows out, so you can slip down and out of the hug. Widen your stance to lower your body, and start to turn towards your attacker.

Continue your turn, and use both arms to deliver a reinforced elbow strike to the solar plexus.
Slide your striking elbow up, and strike your opponent in the chin.
